Paver walkway contractor for front walks and side yards.
We build front walks, side passages, garden paths and steps across the Bay Area. Paver walkways run $30 to $50 per square foot installed in 2026. Tight city lots in San Francisco usually sit in the upper half of that range.

What kinds of walkways do we build?
- Front walks from the sidewalk to the front steps, with a landing at the door.
- Side passages that turn a muddy strip into a clean path to the backyard.
- Curved garden paths and stepping-stone runs set in turf or gravel.
- Paver steps and landings on sloped lots.
- Walkways with low-voltage path lighting set along the edges.
Why does a small walkway still need a real base?
A walkway is narrow, so every dip and every lifted edge is something you step on. We build walkways on the same Permalast Layered Install System as our patios: excavation, a compacted gravel base, bedding layer, pavers, edge restraint on both sides and polymeric sand.
Side yards are where roof and yard water usually run, so we set the slope and add drains where needed. A path that holds puddles against the foundation is worse than no path.
How much does a paver walkway cost?
Paver walkways run $30 to $50 per square foot installed. A typical front walk three to four feet wide and 20 to 30 feet long lands between $3,000 and $6,000. A side passage 40 to 60 feet long runs about $5,000 to $9,000. A front yard redo with a walk and a sitting pad, 200 to 400 square feet, runs $8,000 to $20,000.
The price per square foot is higher than a patio because a walkway has more edge and more cutting for every square foot of surface.
Are there city rules for front yard paving?
Sometimes. San Francisco, for example, limits how much of a front setback can be paved and asks for planted and permeable area when you repave it, and work that touches the public sidewalk needs its own permit. Other cities have their own rules for front yards and driveway approaches. We check the rules for your address before we design the walk.
Can a walkway be built together with other work?
It usually should be. A walkway built with the patio, driveway or turf it connects to shares the same pavers, the same borders and the same finished heights, and it costs less than bringing a crew back later.

Walkways: frequently asked questions
How much does a paver walkway cost in the Bay Area?+
Paver walkways run $30 to $50 per square foot installed in 2026. A front walk 3 to 4 feet wide and 20 to 30 feet long usually lands between $3,000 and $6,000.
How wide should a front walkway be?+
Three feet is the minimum that feels comfortable for one person. Four feet lets two people walk side by side and is what we recommend for a main front walk when the lot allows it.
How long does a walkway take to install?+
A walkway is one of our shorter jobs and normally sits at the low end of our usual three to seven working days. Steps, lighting and long side passages with drainage add time.
Can you replace a cracked concrete walkway with pavers?+
Yes. We break out and haul away the concrete, excavate for a proper base and build the paver walk in its place. Laying pavers on top of cracked concrete just transfers the cracks and raises the height at the door.
Do you install lighting along walkways?+
Yes. Low-voltage path lights are planned with the walkway so the wiring runs under the base before the pavers go down.
